An exquisitely tasting twist on the Apple Pie

Apples: | |||
1 1/2 | pounds | Gala apples, peeled and sliced (about 3 large apples) | |

1 | teaspoon | brown sugar | |

1 | teaspoon | cinnamon | |
|
|||
1 | tablespoon | heavy cream or half and half | |
|
|||
butter, to grease pie plate | |||

|||
Pie Topping: | |||
1/2 | cup | (1 stick) butter, softened to room temperature | |
|
|||
1/2 | cup | granulated sugar | |
|
|||
1/4 | cup | brown sugar | |
|
|||
1 | cup | all purpose flour | |
|
|||
1/2 | teaspoon | vanilla extract | |
|
|||
pinch of salt | |||
|
|||
1 | egg, beaten | ||

Apples:
Spread a thin coating of butter onto a 9 inch pie plate with wax paper.
Place sliced apples into a large mixing bowl. Combine brown sugar and cinnamon and pour over the apples. Add heavy cream and gently toss to coat.
Pour and arrange apples into the buttered pie plate.
Pie Topping:
Cream butter. Add sugars and cream together until smooth.
Mix in flour, vanilla, salt and the beaten egg.
Spoon the cake-like batter over the apples and use a flat spatula to spread evenly.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 - 50 minutes.
Serve with scoops of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
